Item Description
Offered here is screen-worn wardrobe for Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan), the titular character on the "Captain Kangaroo" children's TV show that aired 1955-1984. Lot includes jacket from 1971, the first year Captain Kangaroo donned his signature red jacket. Jacket has white piping around notch lapels, breast pocket and deep, kangaroo-style hip pockets from which the character would retrieve all many of surprises to delight children. Jacket was custom-made by John F. Kennedy's tailor Chipp of New York & New Haven. Chipp label sewn into interior pocket has typed "Robert Keeshan 4/2/71" notation. Jacket features brass buttons on sleeves/pockets/front closure and has charcoal gray lining. Approx. size 40. Comes w/pair of gray wool slacks (approx. size 36) w/"Chipp" label in waist w/"Bob Keeshan 8/3/79" notation. Accompanied by gray silk necktie w/buttonhole for accessories and pink Charleston brand long-sleeved, button-up shirt and 43.25" long black leather belt. Keeshan wore a blue suit from the inception of the "Captain Kangaroo" TV show in 1955, switching to his iconic red jacket in 1971 and wearing it until the show ended in 1984. Both jacket and jeans have some trace aging w/more moderate aging to jacket's white piping, which has 1" area of staining to left lapel at notch. Outfit o/w displays VF.
