Item Description
The 1900 Summer Olympics (called the Paris Universal Exposition), today officially known as the Games of the II Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event which was celebrated in 1900 in Paris, France. No opening or closing ceremonies were held; competitions began May 14 and ended October 28. The Games were held as part of the 1900 World's Fair. Offered here is a 2.5" (80mm) bronze medal designed by J.C. Chaplain. Rim is stamped "Bronze" and features tiny horn of plenty hallmark. Obverse features Marianne while reverse features winged Victory supporting a torch-bearing winner on her back w/the Palace of Versailles visible in bkg. Medal has even aged patina and has some scattered lt. wear w/rubs to raised high relief portions on reverse, VF.
