Item Description
In 1971, Harper & Row published a limited edition set of 500 boxed portfolios titled "Pictures By Maurice Sendak". The set consisted of 20 separate lithographs from his books "In The Night Kitchen", "Where The Wild Things Are" and earlier titles. This is a 11.25 x 14.75 sheet cut from a larger 23x29" printer's proof sheet provided to Sendak for proofing purposes. Sendak signed each print in black ink and gave the proof sheets to Ted Hake in the early 1970s while Hake was visiting to show vintage Mickey Mouse items to Sendak for his collection. This print showing a cat with a pond and frog in the background is identified by a line of printed text on the reverse as "A Kiss For Little Bear/Harper & Row/Copyright (c) 1968 by Maurice Sendak". The image area is 5x5.5" signed in black ink at the lower right "Maurice Sendak". NM. Comes with Hake's COA. See next related item.
