Item Description
11-1/8x15-5/8" artboard w/pen and ink original art by José Luis García-López, whose long-running relationship w/DC Comics helped shape the style of the publishing company's comic books during the 1980s. During his exclusive contract w/DC, he was responsible for penciling the style guides used by the company to provide official artwork for merchandise licenses around the world. García-López illustrated the 1982 guide (still used today as part DC Comics' retro line), a 1992 guide focused on the "Batman Returns" movie, Superman-related guides from 1991, 1994 and 2006 as well as other DC Universe guides in 1998, 2004 and 2012. Art features near full body image of Lois Lane seated at desk, taking notes before a microphone while talking on the phone. A camera case hangs from her chair. Superman is seen entering Lois's office through open window in bkg. Additional scene at right shows Superman flying over Metropolis w/Lois under his arm, very similar to scene seen in the 1978 "Superman" movie. This scene is set against star-shaped bkg. Bottom center has "Lois Lane - Reporter" on text block designed like notepad. Some faint blue penciling can be seen on Superman's cape in scene at right. Lois's skirt is paste-over stat (over original pencil art), indicating a change made to original art. Margins have paste-over strips, including 1982 DC Comics, Inc. copyright strip as this was published in the 1982 style guide. Lower margin has slight trim. Lower right has been signed in black felt tip pen by García-López, adding "To Michael" inscription. Artboard has even aging and scattered corner tip wear. VF. Franco Toscanini Collection.
