Item Description
4x7x1" deep box contains New Haven watch with 1x1.5" rectangular case. While this box, insert and watch closely match the 1948 issue (see item #1772) this is actually an earlier issue from 1941 with a number of differences from the 1948 issue. This 1941 version came between the 1935 and 1948 New Haven issues. This is documented by the original guarantee paper included with ink stamp date of 1941. This box lid has label on one side noting "Blue Leather" band. Bottom edge of lid reads "Licensed By Paul R. Gruen, Inc." Bottom side panel notes company name of "The New Haven Clock Co." Patent number appears below this rather than on the left side panel. The image on the box insert also differs slightly from item #1772 with most noticeable difference being a printed price of $3.50 at top right corner. The following insert is without the printed price as watch came with a foil tag noting price of $6.95. Box/insert have light wear/aging, VF. Watch has original blue leather straps which are worn, VG. Only difference on this dial from the next item is the fact there is no small copyright symbol to the left of Annie's dress. Dial aged, minute hand is missing. Watch is over-wound. Case retains most full luster but overall VG. This version is not documented in The Comic Character Timepieces book by Schiffer. From the Russell Brown Sr. Collection.
