Item Description
22.75x37.75" frame contains fabric-covered matte w/two openings showcasing the front/back of two separate complete LP covers (one display example, one signed example) for the British Parlophone Mono (PMC 1230) pressing of the 1964 album "A Hard Day's Night," The Beatles' third studio album, released in Great Britain on July 10, 1964. While a studio album, side one contained songs from the soundtrack to The Beatles' film "A Hard Day's Night." At left side is a display example of the LP front (featuring the iconic series of five photo images for each Beatle). At right side is back of LP, which has been signed in blue (which has darkened w/age) ink by all four members of the band. Signed shortly after the release of the album, there is additional "Presented By Wathes" handwritten text at upper right, beside "A Hard Day's Night" title. This was done in another hand as this signed album cover was offered as the grand prize in a contest held by Wathes, a store located in Liverpool, England (The Beatles hometown) at the time of the album's release. As the front of these covers featured a glossy, laminated surface, The Beatles found it difficult to sign the front, instead opting to sign the unlaminated back cover. As noted by Frank Caiazzo, there are no examples of this LP cover featuring signatures of all four members of the band on the front cover and less than 10 known examples of album covers signed by all four on the back. Paul McCartney has signed at upper left by "The Beatles" name while John Lennon has signed across "Side Two" track listing. McCartney's signature has some lt. scattered ring wear from record but remains totally legible and displays VF overall. Lennon's signature blends somewhat w/printed text, but remains legible and displays Fine/VF. George Harrison has boldly signed below his photo image, his signature displaying Exc. Ringo Starr has signed his full name (w/an added star sketch) above his photo image, his signature blending slightly w/printed text and displaying Fine/VF. Album cover itself has some scattered lt. handling wear w/1.25" surface paper split on spine and some minor edge creases and corner tip wear. Back cover has some scattered lt. dust soiling and ring wear but overall album cover displays Fine. Unsigned album cover shows more moderate edge wear but as matted, remains nice for display. An item signed by The Beatles doesn't get much better than this - a vintage album cover signed by all four members of the legendary band. Comes with Hake's COA and LOA from Frank Caiazzo, noted Beatles autograph expert.
