Item Description
Lot of six thin artboards measuring between 10-1/8x14" and 12x16.25". All date to c. 1930s. Of note, one cartoon features extensive content and has title that translates to "The Year Of Events 1932 Germany" and features Volkerbund/League of Nations, Greta Garbo "Grand Hotel" New York premiere, Japan invades China, FDR as President/end of Prohibition, Berlin transport workers strike, Germany loses to Holland (international soccer), German Presidential Election (Hindenburg), Max Schmeling losing boxing title to Jack Sharley. Other content of note on other artboards include England's new nobility, women asking men if they are single, children smoking, Bolshevik educational courses, themes of paranoia/suspicion w/invisible ink and child as midget, Churchill's Amazonen (Amazons) Report of plutocracy (government by the wealthy) and more. See online for expanded description. All appear to have been published as each has page/printing notations at bottom margins. Highly detailed pen and ink original art has been signed by Han Füsser (1898-1959), a longtime contributor to the Düsseldorfer Wochenschau, for which he made many caricatures. Although showing an affectionate view on the weaknesses and strengths of his fellow men most of the time, he also made some anti-British cartoons during World War II. Artboards have some scattered dust soiling and aging. Fine overall w/VF art.
