Item Description
1" c.1957. Features a pair of black and white quill pens. Jackie Robinson joined NAACP in 1957 and immediately chaired the "Freedom Fund". The fund has started in 1953 with a goal of fund raising in an effort to end segregation by Jan. 1, 1963 the 100 year anniversary of the emancipation proclamation. After Robinson joined efforts were increased, including the production of this button, and he was instrumental in helping reach the monetary goal of the fund. Very faint age to the paper most noticeable in the upper left hand quadrant. VF. A scarce button tying the civil rights movement to one of baseball's most important players.
