Item Description
15.25x35" frame contains artboard that has been matted to 10x29.75". Features original India ink art for Nov. 26, 1921 daily strip by "Mutt & Jeff" creator Bud Fisher. Strip has five panels and features Mutt walking into "Jeff Tailor" shop to buy a new suit, stating "Lucky For Me Jeff Opened Up A Tailoring Shop Or I Couldn't Have Got A New Suit This Fall!" He proceeds to try on suit under Jeff's supervision, Jeff complimenting the fit. Mutt goes on to tell Jeff he won't be able to pay him for the suit until Spring, which Jeff agrees to. This elates Mutt, who asks when the suit will be ready, to which Jeff replies "Some Time In The Spring, Mutt!" as Mutt's hat flies off in shock. Mutt appears in all panels, Jeff in last four. Handwritten title in pencil below art reads "Mutt And Jeff - Mutt Was Quite Frank And So Was Jeff - By Bud Fisher." Art has H.C. Fisher copyright strip paste-over in fourth panel and signature and duplicate copyright strip paste-overs in last panel. Margins have some additional penciling including blue pencil date at top right. First panel has Dec. 28, 1921 inkstamp. Upper left has sliver of corner off, but this is not too distracting as matted. Fine overall w/Exc. art.
