Item Description
The ten larger buttons are 1.75” and the other items are to scale. Group begins with Yellow Kid button #12 showing him wearing boxing gloves with slogan “Say/I’d Be A Terror If I Could Jist Git Real Mad.” Next is celluloid covered hors d’oeuvres fork from Jack Dempsey’s Broadway restaurant. Also for Dempsey is one of his match books with die cut cardboard cutout of him on the interior and with each of the large matches marked by his “J.D.” initials. Package is complete with couple of small age dots on the outer top edge fold. Other non-buttons include pair of “Golden Gloves” award badges. One is from the “Newburg News” with date of “38” on reverse and for the weight class “118 Open.” Light wear on the fabric. Second names “The News Welfare Association Inc.” This is undated but circa late 30s. Another “Golden Gloves” item is miniature finely formed solid brass boxing glove with threaded post and screw cap. Front has text naming the event and “Terra Haute Tribune/Star.” Last non-button item is a charm with inset real photo of a boxer we cannot identify. Among the buttons are 1.25” matching pair showing famous fighters “Marcel Cerdan” and “Jake Motta.” In the 1.75” size are two different for Henry Armstrong, Ezzard Charles, two different for Ingemar Johansson, Sonny Liston, Lou Nova, Tami Mauriello, Bob Montgomery, and Randy Turpin. Items are NM to Mint with small exceptions as noted. An excellent group of boxing collectibles.
