AFA graded and encapsulated 5.5" tall Mattel action figure w/maroon sword and axe weapons (similar to those offered w/promotional Man-E-Faces figure). At first glance, the figure is an armorless He-Man, but this He-Man has brown hair instead of blonde, brown trunks w/black belt and matching black boots. Back of figure has 1981 Mattel copyright and "Taiwan" country of origin text. Alternately known as Savage He-Man and Wonder Bread He-Man, this figure's existence has caused much confusion over the decades, its origins finally being established just recently. Once thought to have been a Wonder Bread mail-in offer, Savage He-Man was actually a promotional figure offered regionally by stores including Meijer Thrifty Acres (now known just as Meijer), Zayre, Kohl's, Evans, Wieboldt's and Thornbury's Toys, obtained as a "Buy 3, Get 1 Free" mail order item after purchasing three Masters Of The Universe figures. This figure was also known to come w/matching maroon shield, though weapons/accessories clearly differed. Figure shows some lt. paint wear to hair and back of torso has to stray but tiny spots of silver paint. Trace paint wear to edge of one heel. The demand for this figure has created a thriving custom and bootleg market, making legitimate examples all the harder to find. The example offered here is guaranteed authentic. Archival case. Among the most coveted Masters Of The Universe figures, considered by many to be a grail piece.
