17 x 21.75" h. c. 1928. Thick paper stock,M. B. Brown Printing & Binding Co., NY. Charter "Alfred E. Smith for President Club" for the Hartford, CT chapter. Signed in ink "Hartford-Conn/Edward R. May-Pres.", other signatures are stamped facsimilies. Central photo of Smith flanked by Motto:"Liberty-Right-Justice". Sentiment is echoed in golden seal. Charter details tenets of his progressive agenda including "that the poor shall not be oppressed by the rich" that "the weakest member of the Family of Nations should receive the same respect as the strongest" among others. Edge toning, heaviest on left side near seal & top 1/4. Several waterstains and central wrinkling that extends from top to bottom. VG. Charter resembles an Apostolic Blessing, consistent branding for the first Catholic Presidential nominee.
