Item Description
The 5 items in this lot and 6 in lot #357, are each a 1-9/16” long by 3/8” dia. small but hefty brass tube designed like a telescope with black accent around the tube. The smaller end of the tube has an insert with the word “France” on the rim and a tiny viewing hole at the center. When held to light, a crisp and clear portrait within the design of a double oval frame is seen. At bottom of the oval image is the person’s name and on these 5 for the U.S.A. leaders are the words “The National American Women Suffrage Association.” It was not possible to capture photographically the images within the Stanhope as the viewing hole is under 1/16” dia. We have taken photos off the internet to serve as illustrations; however 3 of the photos we show in this group match those in the stanhopes. Brass tubes have minimal tarnish discoloration of no real consequence on the exterior. The interior views are Mint. In this group are: "Susan B. Anthony" (same image as we show); "Carrie Chapman Catt" (same image but flipped); “Anna Howard Shaw” (similar to what we show but in dress with wide lace collar); “Elizabeth Cady Stanton” (close-up portrait facing to the left); “Lucy Stone” (same image as we show). See next related lot. Rare.
