Item Description
This 1.25” campaign button from 1896 is rare and among the most desirable buttons in the hobby. In addition, its condition is 98% mint. We are subtracting 1% for extremely small and very few surface marks showing only with magnification and 1% for a .25” near hairline sliver of surface paper off the first used 1896 Whitehead & Hoag backpaper. The image is perfectly centered and the celluloid has high gloss. The rim slogan reads “Gold Didn’t Get There July 7th/But Watch Us Take It There Nov. 3rd.” The first part of the slogan refers to the date of the Democratic National Convention where Bryan made his famous “Cross of Gold” speech. Almost certainly the best surviving example of this major classic in the hobby.
