Item Description
Lot of two pieces for premium prepared for Kellogg's but never put into production, most likely inspired by the transfers set that was produced a few years earlier (see previous item #2117). Nicely done pen and ink art appears on 3.5x6" stiff paper sheet and features nine different images including six of Superman, his "S" symbol and Lois Lane. Superman images include him punching thug, wrestling lion, rescuing woman, standing w/boy, lifting elephant, flying and single portrait image. Sheet has very lt. trace of dust soiling, tiny pinhole at bottom center margin just below art and thin trace of paper clip rust at top center as originally clipped to the Inter-Office Memo w/only a couple of tiny rust dots on actual art. VF. Comes w/6.75x8.5" typed "Inter-Office Communication" from a Gold employee to Sam Gold. Dated June 19, 1946. Text referring to production includes "Quantity 30,000,000 - 18 Designs - Size 3-1/8x2-1/4" - Price $5.50 Per Thousand - These Decals Would Be Delivered, One Of A Design To A Package." Also mentions that a job of this size would require three to four months to produce. Pair of horizontal folds, trace of dust soiling, margin wear including .25" tear along top edge. Fine. A unique item for the Superman collector. From the Gordon Gold Archives and comes w/their COA. Franco Toscanini Collection.
