Item Description
11x16.5" thin artboard has original pen and ink art by Terry Beatty. Originally created in 1981 as parodies of comic books, for Alan Light's "Buyer's Guide For Comics Fandom." This art was later re-printed in June, 1986 by Renegade Press, in "The Phony Pages" comic book. Art lampoons both Al Capp's Li'l Abner and Conan the Barbarian, showing Abner about to fight a large "Shmoo God" as Mammy and Pappy Yokum look on. All seem excited at the prospect of eating some Shmoo God. Bottom margin has art and preview text for "Joe The Palooka," another spoof. Some humorous details include Daisy May's measurements where the month should be. Paste-overs at top for "The Phony Pages - An Erroneous Chronicle Of The Graphic Story Medium" and typed "history" of Abner the Barbarian. Art has been signed in black ink at bottom right by Beatty. Scattered margin wear, but art remains clean and Exc.
