c.1990s. 18.75x26.75” metal frame has plexiglas over archival mat w/14.5x20.5” opening. India ink and colored marker art scene is re-creation combining logo and large splash panel from “Detective Comics” #34 Dec. 1939 with bottom three panels from origin story that appeared on bottom of page two in “Detective Comics” #33 Nov. 1939. Logo and all text is done by hand. Splash panel text includes: “The Legend Of The Batman-Who He Is And How He Came To Be! Created By Bob Kane Art By Sheldon “Shelly” Moldoff” w/classic image of long eared Batman. Bottom three panels have Bruce Wayne pondering how to fight crime. A bat flies in the window and he decides to become “The Batman”. Bottom margin has inked text “I Was Bob Kane’s First Assistant In 1939 On Batman- Sheldon “Shelly” Moldoff”. Color is more elaborate than done in comics, including gray clouds added in sky in last panel. Bright and NM. Commissioned directly from the artist who worked directly w/Kane on Batman in the Gold and Silver Age. The only Sheldon Moldoff (1920-2012) art combining these classic images as opposed to the more standard recreations/specialty pieces he did multiple times. From the Charlie Roberts Collection.
