Item Description
c. 1940s. Nine paper sheets are each 17x23”. Eight sheets are stapled together at top. First two sheets are blank. All remaining sheets have 10.5x14.75” image areas. Third sheet has cover design w/Mary in traditional superhero costume in center w/lightening bolts radiating out from behind her and four different images of her in various civilian outfits including reading paper, dressed for Fall, wearing pajamas. Fourth sheet is blue color progressive proof just showing same four civilian outfits w/no line art. Fifth sheet is repeat of cover design, but four civilian costumes have different color schemes. Sixth sheet is red color progressive proof of cover w/no line art, seventh sheet is yellow color progressive proof w/line art, eighth sheet is yellow color progressive proof without line art. Comes w/same size loose sheet w/back cover design which has Mary in center wearing summer outfit w/saddle shoes surrounded by four different images of her in traditional superhero costume w/large background star accents. Four proofs have © Fawcett Publications printed text at lower left. All sheets have been folded once vertically and horizontally as stored causing small hole at center fold intersection and a few hairline color rubs along a few fold lines. Some lt. handling creases here and there w/a bit of wear along blank bottom margin edges. Images areas bright and VG overall. Three similar proof pages can be seen in the superb Chip Kidd/ Geoff Spear book “Shazam ! The Golden Age Of The World’s Mightiest Mortal” .
