Item Description
This is a miniature fully 3-dimensional replica of a crocodile made of luminous plastic 4" long by 5/8" thick and standing about .75" tall. Although it may not be obvious from our photo, the crocodile is very finely detailed with his upper body covered in scales, his lower body done in a smaller pattern of scales, and he stands on four tiny oval feet. He has large oval eyes and his jaw line is accented on each side with fanged teeth. This was a General Mills test premium done in 1941 and offered over only two Minnesota radio stations. General Mills recorded only 809 requests and today we know of only four examples including this. The top of the crocodiles back has three small holes and when blowing air into his mouth a high pitched whistle is produced which can be varied somewhat by placing fingers over one or more of the holes on his back. While this ultra rare premium is included in Hake's Pop Culture Memorabilia guide this is the first we've offered and in fact, as best as we can recall, the first we've even seen. The values in the guide are: Good $1250.00; Fine $3500.00; NM $5000.00. This example has only a few pinpoint and nearly microscopic dark dust specks within a crevice or two of the plastic so for practical purposes we will call this example NM although in reality we don't see how it could be any closer to Mint condition. One of the most desired and yet most elusive rarities in the hobby of radio premium collecting.
