Item Description
4.25x6.5" with nine member team shown wearing striped skirted uniforms with bows at their necks, caps and dark stockings. One holds a bat. A baseball is on the floor in the foreground. Margins have text printed in light red. Left side margin has text "W.S. Franklin, Manager." Player's names are printed across the bottom margin: "Effie Earl S.S., Edith Mavves 3B., Alice Lee L.F., Rose Mitchell R.F., Angie Parker 2B., May Howard Cap and P., Annie Grant C.F., Kittie Grant 1B., Nellie Williams C." This team was unusual in that they mainly played against mens teams and usually won against whoever they were matched. The team had many successes however, there is a possibility that some of the players shown in the photo may have actually been men dressed as women which adds another interesting aspect to this fascinating and historic photo. Mount has lt. soiling and center bottom edge of mount has a tiny dot of missing surface paper. Emulsion on photo has yellowed a bit with age. Back of mount has a barely noticeable 1-3/8" hairline surface wrinkle which doesn't affect the front image. All printed text is faded but legible. Overall mount is VG and photo itself is near VF. A classic piece of baseball history.
