Item Description
14.25x40.75" high quality wood frame with plexiglass has archival mat with 7.75x34.25" opening revealing dynamic panoramic scene with drivers, crew members, officials and guards standing or kneeling in foreground in center of racetrack. Huge crowds are in grandstands and on fields and a few of the race cars can be seen in center of background. Upper left has photographer text "Indianapolis Motor Speedway 16th Annual 500 Mile Race 1928 Photo Number 7311 By Kirkpatrick Studio Indianapolis". Left side of photo has a few hand inked names including: Vollmer, Riley, Brett, Tony Gulotta, Pete, Ray. The race was held on Wednesday, May 30th and won by Louis Meyer with Lou Moore in second place and George Souders in third place. Tony Gulotta, noted on photo finished 10th. Photo has some yellowing of emulsion due to age and a few lt. hairline creases are visible. Fine overall but displays Exc. as professionally framed and matted. A classic and historic image ready for display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
