Item Description
20.25x25" frame contains approximately 18.25x23.5" sheet of thin cardboard with India ink illustration with white paint touch-ups. We believe this piece was used in the beginning of "Out Of The Ink Well" cartoon "Mosquito" in 1922. At the beginning of all his early Koko cartoons, Max Fleischer would draw the original large image of Koko in the cartoon and the image would then come to life and animate into the cartoon. Image shows Koko with boxing gloves sparring with a boxing glove-wearing mosquito. Sheet is inscribed in ink "My Dear Raoul Here's Wishing You Success With My New Productions. Sincerely Max Fleischer 1922." Raoul Walsh and Fleischer formed a working relationship in 1922, Walsh going on to become big Hollywood director/actor and founding member of the Motion Picture Academy. Sheet has handling wear with a .25" tear at top margin and dust soiling. Fine. A great piece of Fleischer art, featuring one of the greats of early days of animation.
