Item Description
The first ever Superman ring from 1940 issued by DC Comics and promoted in early issues of Superman and Action Comics. Only 1,600 rings were awarded, but it's possible others were used in candy and bread promotions. Center image of Superman breaking chain with surrounding text "Supermen Of America Member." One side has planet design with two lightning bolts on opposite side. This ring is new to the market and comes from the family of a Las Vegas man who was a life-long Superman fan. Only 20 total rings are known and this example in Fine condition ranks among the 8 best with only 4 better. The silvering on the ring is about 80% complete. The loss is on lower edges and outer surface of bottom band from normal wear against the finger. Silvering on the top display area is 99% complete. The tiny, under 1/16", "S" logo area on his chest has most red paint gone but most importantly the red paint surrounding the perimeter inscription appears 95% complete to the naked eye. Under magnification about 80% paint remains intact which is still outstanding. It's been 7 years since we offered any example and that one between good and very good brought just under $7,000. The consignor has set a very conservative opening bid of $5,000. As we mentioned, we know of only 4 better and this overall fine example displays Exc. with nearly all red appearing intact.
