Item Description
32.75x59.25" die-cut cardboard standee that has been mounted to heavy board w/easel back. This impressive theater standee was produced to promote the 1948 "Superman" Columbia serial that starred Kirk Alyn in the title role. Standee features choice artwork w/large, nearly full body image of Superman flying (similar to the image used on one of the serial's one-sheet posters) over large title at middle. Villainess The Spider Lady can be seen in bkg. Bottom portion of standee features three different action scenes- Superman hovering over thug operating ray gun, stopping locomotive and rescuing Lois Lane (depicted as blonde on standee). Promotional text at bottom reads "Based On The Superman Adventure Feature Appearing In Superman And Action Comics Magazines, In Daily And Sunday Newspapers Coast-To-Coast And On The Superman Radio Program Broadcast Over The Mutual Network." Horizontal fold at center as designed. Standee has all over moderate professional restoration, including neat repair to 8.75" tear at upper left (partially across Spider Lady's face) and at bottom. This restoration blends well for the most part and is only noticeable upon close inspection. Main Superman image features very little restoration (only noticeable on one hand). First letter of Alyn's last name has been circled at bottom and die-cut edges show some handling wear. Fine overall, but standee still displays nicely. Extremely rare, one of just two known examples of this standee, one of the most sought after Superman serial promotional items. Franco Toscanini Collection.
