Item Description
6x21-5/8" artboard w/"Craftint Singletone" shading accents has three panels of original pen and ink art for "Superman" daily strip #1273, c. early 1940s. Art features Superman in all three panels, attempting to stop careening freight train car from running over two people tied to railroad tracks. In typical cliffhanger fashion, last panel has Superman saying "This Promises To Be Tougher Than I Imagined!" w/caption reading "Has The Man Of Steel At Last Met His Match?" w/small "S" symbol underneath. Reverse of artboard has penciled "No Pushover!" title. Superman co-creator Joe Shuster has signed in black ink under last panel. Margins have slightly darkened w/age and top margin has trace remnants of strip of paper tape on reverse. Original blue pencil preliminary lettering can be seen, but art is clean and displays Exc. Franco Toscanini Collection.
