Item Description
7.5x11.5" on thin glossy paper. For a "Twi-Night Three-Team" doubleheader held July 18, 1944 at Shibe Park (later known as Connie Mack Stadium) in Philadelphia, PA. Front cover photo is of Satchel Paige in his KC Monarchs uniform although neither he or his team were part of this set of games. Back cover photo is of Josh Gibson, who did play in both games for the Homestead Grays. Inside has completed box score in pencil for the first game between the Grays and the Baltimore Elite Giants w/the score noted as Grays 11, Giants 4. The second game was the Grays vs. "Ed Bolden's" Philadelphia Stars. That game is noted at being called a 4-4 tie in the 11th inning. Printed names of players for these games include: Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, Josh Gibson, Jud Wilson, Sam Bankhead, Vic Harris, Henry Kimbro, Roy Campanella, Joe Black, George Scales, Oscar Charleston (Coach) and others. In addition to the stats being filled out at the time, there is some penciling on front bottom margin while on the top/bottom margins on the inside and back cover addition player information was added many years later in ink. This includes player names and years they were inducted into the HOF (a Negro League history of sorts added by the then owner of the item). Some penciling bleeds through slightly on the front cover but this is faint. Horizontal center crease w/much more faint vertical center crease. Other lt. handing wear including some tiny pinch creases to Gibson image, including on his face. VG/Fine. A rare Negro League memento fully annotated at the game.
