Item Description
Large and impressive calendar is 20.5x29" and has been professional framed & matted in museum quality style. Overall size of the heavy and ornate gold wood frame is 31x39" and calendar has been relief mounted w/a double matte. Issued by Don Q rum. Top has team photos of the 1947-1948 Caguas-Guayama and Mayaguez baseball clubs, champions and sub champions of the league. Around the "Don Q" logo at center is a list of former league champs and previous season's team stats. Below this is calendar pad w/Nov. as the top sheet and around this are 15 individual player portrait photos w/stat text for that player. The two key players shown are Hilton Smith and Willard Brown, two of the greatest stars of the Negro Leagues and both are HOF members. Of special note to baseball card collectors is the fact that the portrait of Hilton Smith on this calendar is exactly the same as that on his 1948-1949 Tolteros rookie card. The other player portraits are: Chet Brewer, Ruben Gomez, Ford Smith, Vincente Villafane, Francisco Coimbre, Juan Sanchez, Alonso Perry, Charley Glock, Fernando Diaz, Eugene Smith, Johnny Davis, Gilberto "Foca" Valentin, and Royce Lint. Calendar is complete w/metal top/bottom runners. Some player names have been neatly added in ink around their images on the team photos. Minor trace of aging and some lt. handling wear as originally rolled. Appearance remains bright and clean and displays beautifully as framed. A rare promotional piece.
