Item Description
First is Western Union telegram dated "1960 Oct 21 PM 7:36" sent from Washington D.C. by the then DNC Treasurer Dick McGuire to Jerry Bruno then at the Sheraton Cadillac, Detroit. McGuire was also Treasurer of JFK's 1st campaign in 1946, was instrumental in the 1960 campaign and after the election was in charge of JFK's White House scheduling. Text of the telegram reads: "The Two Most Critical Weeks Of The Campaign Are Ahead. National, State And Local Workers Are All Tired And Tempers May Become Very Short. Crowd Problems Will Become More Difficult. Please Be As Patient And Courteous As Humanly Possible. Your Courtesy And Patience Will Avoid Any Undesired Incidents And Reflect Itself In Senator Kennedy's Success." Telegram has three fold lines plus 4" tear and a few small repairs on blank reverse with about 7" total length of archival thin paper tape. VG. Also included is 45 R.P.M. record with two campaign songs sung anonymously (no label credit) by Frank Sinatra. One side is "High Hopes With Jack Kennedy" and other is "Jack Kennedy/All The Way." Record appears unused and comes in lightly aged generic tan sleeve. The song, "High Hopes" is the same song made famous a year earlier in the Sinatra film "A Hole In The Head." This version features a big band, chorus, and campaign lyrics that include: "Everyone Is Voting For Jack/'Caus He's Got What All The Rest Lack/Everyone Wants To Back Jack/Jack Is On The Right Track/'Caus He's Got High Hopes, High Hopes/1960s The Year For His High Hopes." Jerry Bruno Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
