Item Description
Thick molded and painted composition high relief store display is 30x42x2.5" deep. c. 1935 by Old King Cole Inc., the premiere manufacturer of Disney store displays. Old King Cole made a wide variety of exceptional Disney displays for stores and theaters. This display depicts Mickey Mouse in classic pose w/hand extended. This hand/arm are mechanical, designed to move up and down via electric magnetic style mechanism on back. Stenciled text on foot reads "© By Special Permission Walt Disney Enterprises." Wooden support on reverse has small hole as display was originally issued w/wooden dowel to prop it up. Front has a few scattered hairline craze lines at neck, on moving arm and legs which are really only visible when viewed closely. Tail has pair of .5" long slivers off but o/w intact. 4.5" long hairline paint crack where Mickey's lower ear meets his head. Upper ear has a few .25" to .5" areas of paint chipping to ear edge. Face has .25" and .75" areas of wear/paint flaking by eyes and some scattered craze lines, but crazing is only noticeable upon close inspection. Electric magnetic style mechanism on back appears complete but plug is missing so no longer working. Overall appearance remains bright and glossy and displays Fine/VF. Large and impressive size piece, certain to become the centerpiece of any Disney collection. Among the most striking Mickey Mouse displays we have offered. All Old King Cole Disney displays are rare and desirable. In recent auctions, we have sold these displays for $5,000 for a non-mechanical Mickey Mouse display to $17,000 for a mechanical Donald Duck display. This is the rare and more desirable mechanical version Mickey Mouse display. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
