Item Description
Pair c. 1924. First is the "Genuine Horsehide" glove, model "JG 16" w/Luque's signature imprinted at center. Made by P. Goldsmith Sons Co. Shows all over heavy wear from use but still displayable as is, Good. Comes w/5x7" 32 booklet also issued by Goldsmith. Title reads "Official Base Ball Rules" and is filled w/detailed information including some stats for the 1923 season. Front cover art features Luque in his Reds uniform, same image appears inside front along w/ad for his "Model LF" glove. Other ads throughout for gloves, balls and uniforms as well as equipment for other sports. Babe Ruth photo also appears on one page only w/mention of him winning the AL MVP award. Tiny trace of paper loss along spine edge but all firmly intact. Some cover aging and inked name at top. Pages clean. VG/Fine. Luque was an early 20th century Cuban starting pitcher in Major League baseball. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1967. A native of Havana, Luque played winter baseball in the Cuban League from 1912 to 1945. He was also a long-time manager in the league. He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957.
