Item Description
10.5x15.75" thin artboard featuring original pen and ink art by comic book artist Kurt Schaffenberger (1920-2002), best known for his work on Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family (during both the Golden Age and Silver Age of comics), as well as his work on the title "Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane" during the 1950s and 1960s. Offered here is the original art for the first page of "Superboy" #16, published by DC Comics in April 1981. "The Super-Secret Of Smallville" story was written by Cary Bates w/interior art and cover by Schaffenberger and inks by Dave Hunt. Splash page shows split-screen style of two panels side by side showing Superboy catching falling meteor as his proud foster parents look on and scene w/boy falling over hurdle as his parents look on in disapproval. Inked editorial notations at top and left margins w/publishing paste-overs at bottom margin. Scattered handling wear/aging w/some white correctional fluid touch-ups, but if matted and framed, art would display VF. From the collection of comic book inker Dave Hunt.
