Item Description
Issued in 1937, this rare series of cards were printed on doughnut boxes. There are 72 cards in the set which features an exceptional mix of subjects including athletes, Presidents, historical figures, aviators, explorers, war heroes, etc. The highlight of the set, but NOT on this box is Babe Ruth. This box has been flattened with all side panels removed. 12x13" as is. The 18 cards on this box (each measuring 2x3" are: Robert Fulton, Ben Franklin, Carl Akeley, Dolly Madison, Will Rogers, Earl Sande, Daniel Boone, Geo. Washington, Bobby Jones, Thomas Jefferson, Glenn Cunningham, Admiral Perry, Capt. Rickenbacker, Thomas Edison, John Paul Jones, Barney Oldfield, Alexander Hamilton, Sitting Bull. Cards are on three panels, the fourth panel has list of these 18, text on the set, ad for the card album and sample text from the album for John Paul Jones. Four different boxes were issued and a coupon from each was needed to obtain the album. These boxes are even rarer than the album. Box has lt. crease running horizontally across center on the text panel. Margins slightly uneven as cut but all design remains complete. Faint trace of 1.5" surface paper lift on top center card of Oldfield. VG. Can be assembled for display or would look great if framed. A complete box w/the Babe Ruth card recently sold at auction for $3,286.
