Item Description
11x14" glossy showing 18 member team in full uniforms with small crowd of spectators in stadium seating background. In front row third from the left is Ray Dandridge and also of note is Cuban HOF member Luis Salazar who appears back row fifth from the left. This photo dates to Ray's first stint with the team which was 1940-1943. Ray Dandridge is considered by many to be the best third baseman in Negro League history and is a member of the National Baseball HOF. The Veracruz team was owned by millionaire Jorge Pasquel who signed many standout American and Cuban players, raiding both Negro League and Major League baseball. They won the Mexican League Pennant in 1940, 1941, 1944, 1951. Heavy and obvious all over handling wear with creases, pair of margin tears 1-2" in length with clear tape repairs on reverse. Most of the wear is relegated to the margins and photo remains very glossy with bold image, so a simple frame and matte job would greatly improve appearance for display. Good and still an impressive large photo. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
