c. early 1900s-1920s. 1.5x3" "Charles J. Carter, L.L.B." business card has San Francisco name misspelled as "Franscisco". Next two items are softcover booklets. First is titled "Carter Master Magician" with 16 pages reproducing several posters in bw. Second booklet is titled "Personal Magnetism By Chas. J. Carter" with 72 uncut pages. Next two items are two sheets of stationery, each 8-1/8x10.75" with poster design at top. One is titled "Carter The Mysterious", the other is titled "Carter The Great". Next is 7.25x9.75" paper folder with four pages of litho images of six different poster designs including text "See Newspapers For Particulars". Last two items are illustrated envelopes with litho cover art based on poster on front cover of folder. First is 4.5x10.25", second is 5.5x7-3/8". Items have trace of lt. aging. Group is overall unused and Fine/VF. Superb litho graphics on last five items. Charles Carter (1874-1936) was a native of San Francisco who began his career as a journalist and lawyer. He achieved his greatest fame overseas. Stage performance highlights included sawing a woman in half, making a live elephant disappear, and cheating the gallows where he was about to be hung but would disappear.
