Item Description
All are c.late 1960s for a premium that was never produced. First two are designs for cereal box backs. Each is a 9 5/8x12 7/8" art board with thin mat with 8 1/8x10 3/8" opening revealing ink art on sheet of vellum paper. First example has been hand-colored with markers and colored pencil with wonderful image of Cap’n Crunch saying “Collect The Whole Crew!” as he hoists a glass of milk with his character image at left side with spoon full of cereal in his right hand which holds figure of Seadog. Nearby is a cereal bowl with attached figures of Alfie and Brunhilde. Text includes “One Free Inside This Package Hang Them On Your Dish...On Edge Of Cup Or Glass...Ride ‘em On Your Spoon!” with additional lines inked in for potential future text. Second example is drawn in lead pencil with text in ink. Includes text “Cap’n Crunch Ship Mates One Of Four Different Characters Free Inside This Package”. Five panels have examples including Cap’n Crunch on edge of glass, Seadog at edge of cereal bowl, Alfie hanging onto light cord or shade pull, and Brunhilde hanging onto pencil with last panel art of child admiring all four with text “Collect The Whole Crew!”. “Breakfast Pals” art-board is 9.5x1..25" with thin mat with 7.25x8.75" opening revealing art in ink and colored pencil. Design shows all four characters on sprues for “Breakfast Pals” as would be bagged unassembled for insertion in cereal boxes. Both color art pieces are for 2-D (flat) figures and the b/w art is for 3-D (full) figures similar to the Disney Winnie The Pooh figures which were produced. Black mats on both color pieces are missing a piece at lower right side, vellum sheets are taped in place with clear cellophane tape on blank margins but art images otherwise will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. Great design and wonderful trio to frame and display together. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold, accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold.
