Item Description
Each is approx. 3-3/8x5-3/8". Nelson card is titled "Miss Maud Nelson" with image of her in uniform holding glove about to throw ball. Card is postmarked 1911 sent to recipient in England with handwritten text in ink "I Was There And Saw This Team Play". Second is titled "Miss Alta Weiss Of The Weiss All-Stars Of Cleveland, Ohio" with image of her in uniform holding ball and glove with small inset closeup photo of her wearing baseball cap. Unused. Third is titled "Ruth Egan, Champion Lady First-Base-Woman Of The World" showing her in Boston uniform holding glove. Trace of lt. dust soil with tiny bit of edge wear but group is overall Fine/VF. Maud Nelson (1881-1944) was a pitcher, scout, manager and team owner. She began her career as a starting pitcher for the Boston Bloomer Girls and played for teams including the American Athletic Girls and the Cherokee Indian Base Ball Club. In 1911 she became owner-manager of the Western Bloomer Girls. Alta Weiss (1890-1964) had her professional debut with the 1907 Vermilion Independence and last professional appearance with the 1922 Weiss All-Stars. Ruth Egan may be one of the youngest players ever signed, as a twelve year old pitcher for the Cleveland Bloomer Girls in 1905. Great trio for these female baseball legends.
