Item Description
13/16" brass rim with a circle of circular accents surrounds image of Lincoln looking slightly left and Hamlin looking slightly right. As so typical of these, the image is dark but yet all details are clear to the naked eye when viewed closely. The emulsion surface shows near microscopic hairlines in reflected light but this is as the piece was made. There are some very tiny emulsion bubbles at far lower right with a pinpoint speck of emulsion off the letter "L" of "Hamlin." The only other emulsion loss is a pinpoint speck off the right side where Lincoln's neck meets his coat. The reverse has original solder spot but the stickpin is gone. A professional jeweler could easily replace it. This first ever uniface photographic jugate has guide value of $4,050 in Hake's 2004 Revised Prices. Only the second example we've been able to offer in 45 years. Rare.
