8.75x11" book w/about 74 pages published by Random House in 1967. First printing. Book includes many photo illustrations, pop-ups, fold-outs, a cardboard picture disc single "Featuring Photo Portrait Of Lou Read." The two interior pages w/three white paper seals are unopened w/seals intact. Sticker features "Andy Warhol" name and "Peel Off" instructions plus original price of $4.95. Second and third pages from end of book have two-page bw photos of Warhol and others on a city rooftop. Contains interviews w/various super stars and a Nico interview on flexidisc w/velvet underground music in the bkg. Book collaborator, Nat Finkelstein says "The major piece that Andy Warhol and I collaborated on was the book, "The Andy Warhol Index. It came out when I was at a party at The Factory. I was getting it on with this girl on the couch and when I looked up, what I saw was decadence. So I decided I wanted to photograph this aspect of American society, as part of the counter-culture emerging at that time..." A rubber balloon (as issued) between the pages has melted over the years and seals together the two pages so a 2.25" deep by 11" tall area along the spine cannot be opened without tearing the surface paper. About 80% of photo (including all people) remain visible. This is a typical problem for this book and often balloon is missing. Book has original price sticker in upper right corner of front cover. Small rubs on silver foil covers and about 10 small hairline scratches on back foil but not breaking the surface. Book retains much silver luster. Front cover features negative image of group sitting in front of large Warhol pop art display. Back cover has a large facial image of Warhol w/his name printed on his lip. A solid, VF example.
