Item Description
9.75x33.25" wood frame with archival mat with 6.5x29.75" opening has 16 Cleveland players in full uniform at left and 15 Indianapolis players at right in full uniform with 2 well-dressed associates in center, possibly managers and other associates kneeling in foreground.  Photo was taken for "Opening Game At Washington Park.  May 15, 1926.  Indianapolis, Ind."  The Indianapolis ABC's were named after their sponsor, the American Brewing Company.  The team was founded and managed by C.I. Taylor.  The 1922 season was the best ever for the club in the Negro National League, finishing 2nd with a 46-33 record.  The Cleveland Elites were only in the Negro National League the year this photo was taken.  Lower right side has photo credit "Patton Studio."  Frame has scattered lt. wear.  Photo is a bit yellowed with age.  VF.  Great panoramic image of players and associates taken on field at stadium.  From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
