Item Description
27x41" poster for 1933 Mickey Mouse animated short. Due to production costs on Disney's animated shorts rising in 1931 (from $5,400 to $13,500), Columbia, Disney's distributor at the time declined to distribute any further animated shorts. Luckily, United Artists came to Disney's aid with a distribution deal that left Disney able to concentrate on improving his shorts to the best that they could be. Posters for Disney animated shorts that were distributed by United Artists are considered among the most beautiful cartoon posters and are quite rare. In the poster we are offering, Mickey Mouse (in blackface as Uncle Tom) and Horace Horsecollar (as the dastardly Simon Legree) perform scene from "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in makeshift barn theater. Poster has a number of pinholes at margin borders with approximately 1x3" long piece missing along right-hand margin, not infringing into image area. As poster was linen-mounted, these defects do not detract greatly from overall bright and vivid appearance of poster. VF+ with an Exc. display. Unique as this is the only known copy of this poster to exist.
