Item Description
Rare toy is by Pressman Toy Corp., 1954. Periscope has paper label covered cardboard body with plastic end caps that contain mirrors. This expands to 30” in length and has a diameter of 3”. One half has undersea scene of deep sea divers and the Nautilus, other half has simulated windows with additional sea scenes. Comes with 6.5x21” die-cut cardboard display card with pair of elastic straps to hold the scope in place. Display card is designed as the Nautilus and has die-cut disc at center which was meant to be removed for placement of the periscope. This perforated disc is loose but held in place on reverse by tape strips. Display card has scattered creases with heavier creasing at front/back tips, back has a .5” tear. VG/Fine. The left end cap has a 4” hairline crack but this does not affect operation. Otherwise Exc. Neat design and the first we’ve seen with the display card.
