Item Description
13.5x20-7/8" artboard has Al Plastino's pen and ink original art for page 1 of Action Comics #333, published by DC Comics Feb. 1966. Splash page art shows Superman punching through midsection of Lex Luthor's robot, only for distraught police officer to tell him that Luthor had deployed the robot to return all of the bank loot stolen by Luthor in previous schemes. Hand-lettered text block w/hand-lettered character/story synopsis explaining that Superman's distrust of his archnemesis Lex Luthor leads him to foil several good deeds in "Superman's Super Boo-Boos!" story. Large, full body image of Superman appears at left. Large "Superman" title/logo at top is pasted vintage stat w/some lt. glue staining at edges as applied. Bottom left has been signed by Plastino (1921-2013) w/hand-inked "13 Pages - Superman" note at bottom right (this is repeated on back). Empty block below art has "Indicia" notice in black marker. Top margin has inked title, issue/page numbers and month of publication. Comics Code Authority inkstamp on back. Some scattered aging and lt. handling wear, but art remains clean and Exc. Great Silver Age Superman original art. In our July 2022 auction, we offered another Plastino splash page from the Feb. 1966 issue of Superman #184, which sold for $15,056. As great as that page was, the page offered here features an action-packed image of Superman battling one of Luthor's machinations.
