Item Description
14-3/8x23-1/8" single-sided poster for the very first museum exhibition of Jack Kirby's comic artwork, held at the Museum of Cartoon Art in Greenwich, CT Nov. 5 to Dec. 31, 1975. Poster features great Kirby illustrations of Marvel characters, including - Mister Fantastic, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Cyclops, Human Torch, Doctor Doom, Thor, Silver Surfer, The Thing, Sub-Mariner, Captain America and Spider-Man. "Kirby" name dominates top of poster in big block letters. Text notes that Kirby original art, posters, portfolios and a special exhibit booklet would be available for purchase. Poster was consigned to us by someone who helped promote the original Museum of Cartoon Art, and had meetings w/key people involved w/its creation and early management. The Museum produced a very limited amount of these posters, estimated at less than 20 copies. Given the extremely short print run, this is not your typical printed paper poster, but instead this poster was printed on slick, matte finish stock. Margins exhibit form of aging resulting in shimmery affect, which is only visible in reflected light. Poster has scattered handling wear across top margin w/some creases and scattered spots of aging. Fine overall. The only example we have seen or offered in our 55 years. A true rarity for Marvel and Kirby collectors.
