Item Description
13.5x19.5" artboard features pen and ink original art by Joe Orlando (1927-1998), inked by Mike Esposito (1927-2010) for Showcase #62, published by DC Comics May-June 1966. This issue introduced The Inferior Five, DC's parody superhero team, children of a superhero team called The Freedom Brigade, a parody of the Justice League of America. In early appearances, the team went up against spoofs of Marvel heroes. Page 30 features six panels, showing issue's villain Dr. Gregory Gruesome and his assistant Hermes conspiring before final two panels showing Inferior Five member Merry Man attempting to fight Hermes, only to be easily knocked out. Top margin has inked title, month(s) of publication and issue/page numbers. Back has faint/partial Comic Code Authority inkstamp as well as inked/pencil notations at top/bottom margins. Artboard has evenly aged and has pin holes at top corners and across top margin as well as at bottom center margin. Art has one small spot of staining in fourth panel, but o/w remains clean and Exc. Historic original art from the issue introducing some of DC's most oddball Silver Age characters.
