Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 2-3/16", no maker but w/union bug on lower metal back which includes opening to insert name card and fixed horizontal bar pin. The specified "Participant" name typed on the card is "John Veitch", whose identity we do not know but who also appears on the previous button from 1949 honoring Joe DiMaggio. Mel Allen, the radio voice of the Yankees began his career with them in 1939. He was in his 12th year when this unique "Participant" button was worn to honor him in what became a 25 year broadcasting career. Allen is recognized inside the broadcasters' wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Three tiny, shallow, indent dots on the "window" area catch reflected light. Exc.
