Item Description
See previous lot #717 for important information on this rare set. Heliodoro Hidalgo was a center fielder and cleanup hitter for Cuban teams in the U.S. during the early 1910s, including the All Cubans, Stars of Cuba and Cuban Stars. In his homeland of Cuba, however, is where Hidalgo really drew attention, starring for the Almendares ball club for 16 years (and shown in their uniform on this card). Heliodoro was best known for his superb defense and base stealing abilities, all contributing to a memorable series in 1910 against the MLB Detroit Tigers. Hidalgo was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1943. This rare card has been designated by CSG as being from the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
