Item Description
1.5" w/Parisian Novelty Co. Chicago hollow metal back. Unlisted in Hake. The assassination of Democrat William J. Goebel after the contested 1899 Gubernatorial election saw KY politics in total chaos and left the Governor's chair open pending a special election in 1900. John W. Yerkes was nominated by the GOP and despite riding the national ticket's coattails came up short losing the campaign to J. C. W. Beckham. Scattered hairline scratches most notably one at 9 o'clock and a few trivial tiny, trapped specks in field. Technically extremely Fine but displaying above grade. We've encountered a smaller variety w/cream background, but this is only the third example of this larger variety we've seen in our 55 years.
