Item Description
1.75", no maker but w/union bug back stamp. Shown in his Cleveland Indians uniform. Satchel Paige is widely regarded as the greatest pitcher in the history of the Negro Leagues, starring for the great Pittsburgh Crawfords and Kansas City Monarchs clubs of the 1930s and 1940s. Joining the Indians in 1948 as the oldest rookie in MLB history, Paige would play a big role down the stretch in leading the Indians to the 1948 World Series. After spending one more season in Cleveland, Paige would play his final three professional baseball seasons with the St. Louis Browns from 1951-53. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. Trace of oxidation to metal collet and back. Lt. trace of wear to cello surface in reflected light. VF.
