Item Description
Nice quality matte contains 7.25x23-1/8" thin artboard w/India ink original art for May 18, 1951 daily strip by Dick Tracy creator Chester Gould (1900-1985). Art features four panels, showing B.O. Plenty, Gravel Gertie and Sparkle Plenty arriving to visit Dick Tracy, Tess Trueheart and the newborn Bonnie Braids (who is unnamed as she was just born in the May 4, 1951 strip). B.O. and his family navigate the piles and piles of letters offering name suggestions, which Dick Tracy Jr. reads through. B.O. and Gertie appear in first two panels, Sparkle Plenty appears in first panel only w/ Dick Tracy and Tess Trueheart appearing in second panel. Bonnie Braids close-up in third panel. Tracy Jr. appears in second and last panels. Gould has signed and dated first panel. Third panel has Chicago Tribune copyright strip. Large inked date at upper left. Penciled "Dick Tracy - Reading Room" title above art. Some staple holes across top margin and scattered dust soiling to margins, but art remains clean and Exc. Would make for nice framed display.
