Item Description
15x20" triple-mat attached to foamcore backing has mixed media original art reinterpreting the cover to Flash Comics #1, published by DC Comics Jan. 1940. Art is by Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff (1920-2012), best known for his work on Hawkman and Hawkgirl during the Golden Age, and as one of Bob Kane's primary "ghost artists" on Batman, working on the character again during the Silver Age. Art has been triple-matted to 8.75x11.75" and features the main cover image of Flash Comics #1 - the Golden Age Flash. Recreation removes the woman Flash was saving as well as the inset images of other characters who appeared on the cover, which introduced The Flash. "Flash Comics" title/logo presentation has also been altered. Moldoff has signed at lower right and has inscribed piece "To Steve - 'Shelly'." Brass nameplate mounted on mat at bottom center. Exc. and ready for framing.
